NRA Gunsmithing Schools

There are four NRA approved affiliated schools across the country who offer short-term gunsmithing courses to aspiring gunsmiths. These courses are head during the spring and summer months, and can range from several days to two weeks. Prices vary according to the course and school. The number of students are limited in each course, and due to popularity, they fill up quickly - so be sure to secure your spot today!

Montgomery Community College

Courses are taught by nationally and internationally known gunsmiths, armorers and craftsmen who share their expertise in courses ranging from basic to advanced techniques. Most courses combine a hands-on and lecture format and range from three days to two weeks in length.

Murray State College

Murray State College, in cooperation with the National Rifle Association, began offering gunsmithing and law enforcement armorer schools in the summer of 1994. The school offers courses in repair & function of rifles, auto pistols, revolvers, and shotguns. Other classes include bluing, re-barreling, alternative finishes, stock repair and refinishing, and more. This is a six week program and these classes are not credited at this time. Each student receives a certificate for each class attended.

Founded in 1945, the Lassen College Gunsmithing Program is the oldest gunsmithing school in the U.S. and the only one in California. An NRA-affiliated school since 1984, we offer summer courses in various subjects, including Machine Shop for Gunsmiths, Basic Rifle Barreling, TIG Welding, and California P.O.S.T. certified Law Enforcement Armorer Courses. Located in scenic Susanville, California – just two hours north of Lake Tahoe – students can enjoy year-round outdoor activities. Dry camping is available during our NRA Summer Program.
